CALLAWAY COUNTY, MO – Two people were killed Tuesday morning in a seven vehicle pileup on eastbound Interstate 70 at the Kingdom City exit.

Authorities suspect at least one vehicle crossed over the wire cable in the median from westbound 70. It appeared two tractor-trailers collided head-on. One other tractor trailer, three pick-ups, and an SUV were also involved in the accident.

There was a light rain falling at the time of the accident.

Five persons were injured and taken to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. Two individuals walked away from the crash unhurt.

The Missouri Highway Patrol's Major Crash Unit spent much of the day collecting evidence and documenting the accident scene in an effort to identify the probable contributing circumstances.

The fatal accident occurred at mile marker 148 and the exit to Highway 54. It is a busy stretch of Interstate 70.

"There's just a lot of traffic that travels on I-70. It's somewhat of a narrow roadway, but I think any driver who uses common sense and good safe practices will find the interstate is safe," Missouri State Highway Patrol Sergeant Scott White said.
