St. Clair County man targeted in violent home invasion

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, IL (KTVI) - A violent home invasion took the life of a 24-year old St. Clair County man just before 1am Tuesday. He was attacked when he answered the door to his trailer in the 1800 block of Apache St. near Caseyville.

Authorities say the victim, Nicholas Hood was pronounced dead at the scene. A family member who called 911 and several children in the home were not injured.

By 3am the St. Clair Co. Sheriff’s Department had activated the Major Case Squad to take over the murder investigation. Some 20 detectives spent the day reaching out to the victim’s relatives and acquaintances.

“It was not a random act. We believe he was targeted,” said Major Case Deputy Commander Lt. Matt Eiskant said. “We’re just following up on leads, trying to get into the life of Nicholas Hood, find out exactly what happened”

A next door neighbor said she and her husband were asleep at the time and did not hear any shots.
