ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Ten days after he was shot and paralyzed by an armed mugger, Chris Sanna is reaching to the public via video from his hospital bed.

'Hello. This is Chris Sanna,' is how the cell phone video begins.

'I want to thank the St. Louis community, the St. Louis Police Department, my friends, my family,' Sanna said in the video. 'I definitely want to thank the veterans; I feel proud to be a veteran. I can`t believe how much they have pulled through for me,' he said.'

Sanna was mugged and then shot in the back as he and his girlfriend were headed for his car in the Old Cathedral parking lot after attending the Cardinals game on September 25.

Police have charged Kilwa Jones with the crime.

People have been donating to a GoFundMe account to help Sanna make up for lost income and the cost of making his house wheelchair accessible.

It is already over $100,000.

'Once we get done with this and get out of the hospital we are going to make St. Louis safer again,' Sanna says at the end of the video.

'Thank you,' he said.
