ST. LOUIS (KPLR) - The CityArchRiver Foundation gave Fox 2 a behind the scenes look inside construction of the new arch museum and visitors’ center.

Even though there is still much work to be done, day-by-day the crews are inching closer to realizing the final vision of connecting downtown St. Louis to the Arch grounds via the park over the interstate

Where a big mound of dirt once sat, there is now a very deep hole and at the bottom of that hole is small door that leads into the old museum complex. That big hole marks the location of new 46,000 square-foot multi-level visitors’ center that will have spectacular views looking west towards the Old Courthouse.

Inside, the new museum will feature all new exhibits and the entrance and security area will all be enclosed – no more waiting outside in the elements.

The museum and visitors’ center portion of the project are expected to be finished by 2017.
