ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) – There is officially one more Republican running for Governor of the state of Missouri. On Saturday, Eric Greitens, the former Navy SEAL and founder of The Mission Continues, formally launched his gubernatorial bid at an event at Westport Plaza in Maryland Heights.
Friday, St. Louis businessman John Brunner announced that in early October he will make an announcement regarding his future, with all signs pointing to his official entrance into the GOP field. Brunner first ran for office in the crowded GOP primary field for the U.S. Senate in 2012 and was defeated by then U.S. Rep. Todd Akin.
Former Missouri House Speaker Catherine Hanaway, Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, and State Senator Bob Dixon are the other declared candidates in the primary. Former State Representative Randy Asbury used a Facebook post to announce on Friday that he was suspending his bid.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster is the only declared Democrat in the race.
