EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KPLR) – A 35-year-old Godfrey man was sentenced Tuesday on child pornography charges after sheriff’s deputies found him photographing children at a public pool, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton said.

According to court documents, deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department were called to a Godfrey swimming pool on June 30 amid reports of a suspicious man sitting in a parked car and taking pictures of kids. Witnesses gave deputies a description of the vehicle and the license plate number, which authorities used to track down the suspect, identified as Adam Hill.

A deputy contacted Hill later that day and he consented to a search of his vehicle. The deputy found a digital camera and a marijuana pipe inside Hill’s car.

Hill admitted to taking pictures of children and said he’d used file sharing programs over the course of several years to download child pornography. Authorities searched Hill’s computer and recovered more than 3,500 images and 185 videos of the illicit material.

Hill pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography in federal court. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay $24,000 in restitution to his victims. Once he’s released from prison, Hill must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and will be on probation for five years.
