Accused Kentucky Trooper shooter has criminal record in St. Louis County

FLORISSANT, MO (KPLR) – The man accused of shooting and killing Kentucky State Trooper Joseph Ponder, was known to St. Louis County police. Johnson Shanks was arrested in August of last year for destruction of property and interfering with a police officer by flight on a traffic stop.

That arrest led to drug possession charges which occurred in April of 2013.

Most recently St. Louis County police were after him for felony stealing $900 worth of lottery tickets on May 18th at a BP gas station.  Those tickets produced $385 in winnings.  He was not taken into custody.

Speaking with Florissant police today, found no arrest records for Johnson Shanks.  Police records show has an address in Black Jack Missouri in North St. Louis County.
