HILLSBORO, MO (KPLR)- A school board shake up took place Thursday morning in the Hillsboro R-3 District. Board members have resigned.

A special board meeting to announce the resignations took place at 6:30 a.m. The impact of the four minute meeting  could be significant. District Superintendent Aaron Cornman announced that three of the seven board members have resigned their positions effective immediately. The board members stepping down are board President John Stewart, member Dan McCarthy and member Charles 'Bo' Harrison. In their resignation letters, Stewart and Harrison gave no reason for stepping down.

McCarthy said he was leaving because of strained philosophical differences.

There was no mention in any of the resignation letters about the situation in the district here involving transgender student Lila Perry, a senior at Hillsboro High School. Perry identifies herself as a female but is still a male physically.

Some were upset when Lila decided to use the girls locker room and restroom, saying it made female students feel uncomfortable. Students staged a walkout at the high school to protest Lila`s use of the female facilities. Others have had demonstrations supporting Lila.
