BELLEVILLE, IL (KPLR) - The lines were long all night on Wednesday as people came out to show support for 9-year-old Nick Day.  Hundreds of familiar faces and strangers packed the Belleville Dairy Queen on Lebanon Avenue raise money for Day's future and expenses.

Nick survived an August attack in Swansea by his mother’s boyfriend that left him in the hospital with three stab wounds. While Nick survived his mother Sharetta didn`t make it. His aunt Sandra Carter says the family is thankful for the support. Nicks football team the Little Knights planned the event.

'This is amazing this is so overwhelming the love and support we are getting is amazing. The love will be there unconditionally.' said Carter

15 percent of the nights proceeds will go to a trust fund for Nick. So far organizers say they`ve collected over $1,300 in cash donations alone. The final tally from the store will be released in a few days.

Funeral services for Sharetta are set for this Friday in East St. Louis.
