HANLEY HILLS, MO (KPLR) - The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged the father of a 21-month-old boy who killed himself last week in an accident shooting in their Hanley Hills home.

The shooting took place August 25 in the 7700 block of Utica Drive. The boy, Carter Epps, found a loaded handgun in the home and shot himself in the torso. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s father, 26-year-old Corey Epps, was charged with one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and one count of tampering with physical evidence.

Prosecutors allege Corey Epps took the gun and the shell casing and left the scene before police arrived.

Epps remains in custody on $50,000 cash-only bond.
