Charges filed in fatal stabbing of Swansea woman

BELLEVILLE, IL (KPLR) – St. Clair County State’s Attorney ​Brendan Kelly has announced first degree murder and aggravated battery charges have been filed against the former boyfriend of 38-year-old Sharetta L. Day, who was stabbed to death this past Saturday.  Authorities say Alvin Harris, Jr. stabbed Ms. Day and her 9-year-old son at her apartment Saturday as neighbor saw part of the attack that occurred outside of her apartment in Swansea.

The 9-year-olds knife wound was so severe that it required immediate emergency surgery at a St. Louis hospital. At last check the child was in critical condition.

Harris is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $1 million dollar bail.
