Police officer killed in traffic crash laid to rest Saturday

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KPLR)- Funeral services were held Saturday for Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Sergeant Peggy Vassallo.  Vassallo was killed when she was hit by a car on her way to work Monday morning, August 24.  The incident happened at Lindbergh Boulevard and Old Jamestown Road. Vassallo was involved in a crash on her way to work. While she was checking on the other driver and inspecting the damage, Vassallo was struck by another vehicle.

Services began at 11:00am Saturday at Grace Church on Creve Coeur Mill Road in Maryland Heights.

Vassallo served as a DARE officer at several schools and was the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department’s community relations officer.  She served 14 years on the Bellefontaine Neighbors police force and before that several years with St. Louis County.
