O’Fallon man accused of raping young girl

O’FALLON, IL (KPLR) – The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged a 36-year-old O’Fallon man in connection with the sexual assault of a minor.

According to the O’Fallon Police Department, the allegations were first reported on August 13.

The suspect, James Schoppen, is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old several times between March and July.

Prosecutors filed the following charges against Schoppen last week: two counts of criminal sexual assault to a female between the ages of 13 and 17; and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Schoppen remains in custody at St. Clair County Jail on $100,000 bond.
