ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - An overturned tractor trailer on I-55 south at I-255 is causing major traffic headaches. The four southbound lands of I-55 are closed.

Al Nothum of Missouri Highway Patrol says traffic could be snarled for one to two hours as crews work to remove the load from the overturned truck.  Nothum says the truck was carrying zinc, a heavy metal.  It is hoped that crews can upright the truck without spilling the load.  If not, it may take a while to clean up.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area.  There will be an impact at rush hour.  MoDot has now told our desk that  they don’t expect the accident to be cleared until 7 or 8 pm.

The truck driver is suffering from minor injuries in this accident.
