ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – As St. Louis enjoys a beautiful late summer afternoon, officials at MoDOT are already looking ahead to Old Man Winter.  Today MoDOT announced they are going on a hiring blitz in an effort to hirer 81 employees ahead of the winter season. That 81 number includes 26 full time workers in St. Louis City and County along with 55 other seasonal full time workers for the St. Louis District operations. Among other things, the workers will drive the snow plows that clear the state’s highways.  While having a commercial driver’s license will be useful, it is not required. When they are at full winter staffing, MoDOT’s St. Louis District has 450 employees. The seasonal jobs will pay $12.44 per hour while the regular full time jobs pay $13.97 an hour, plus benefits. In addition to the new hires, MODOT has already purchased 20,000 tons of new salt to have on hand for the upcoming winter season.
