Apparent suicide leads to accident on I-55: police

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – What began as a homicide investigation on Interstate 55 in south city has detectives now believing a suicide caused a traffic accident.

According to Schron Jackson, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the accident occurred around 7:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-55 at Loughborough.

Witnesses said a man’s vehicle veered off the highway and struck a light pole on a baseball field.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene after police found the driver, a man in his 20s, dead with a gunshot wound to his head. Detectives discovered a gun inside the man’s vehicle.
