HAZELWOOD, MO (KPLR)-- The Major Case Squad has been activated after someone opens fire on a SUV on southbound I-170 in Hazelwood, MO. The SUV driver was shot and killed and a backseat passenger was wounded. A third person in the vehicle was not hurt.

Around 1:40am, Hazelwood Police responded to southbound I-170, between I-270 and Airport Road, for a shooting.  Officer found a black Infinity SUV on the right shoulder with several bullet holes in the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The 32-year-old driver, identified as Brian A. Valley, of Pagedale, had been fatally shot. A 31-year-old passenger in the backseat had been wounded multiple times and was rushed to the hospital, listed in serious condition.

Hazelwood police believe the people inside the SUV were specifically targeted.  They reportedly were at a reunion party of some kind earlier in the night at West Florissant and Dunn Rd. The deceased, Brian Valley, apparently got into some sort of altercation there and told the two others who were in the SUV with him that they had to leave. The shooting happened after they left the party. They say seven to ten shots were likely fired at the SUV from another car.

I-170 reopened just after 6:00am Sunday after a several hour closure so the scene could be investigated.
