ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A police pursuit through St. Louis County and into the City ended with a surprise, with police finding a toddler in the vehicle.
It was about a 20 minute police chase that started when a police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a wanted car. Police were looking for a green Pontiac G6 with tinted windows and Illinois plates. It was wanted in connection with a drive by shooting near 9600 Glen Owen in North St. Louis County. A man reported he was shot in the foot at about 1:45 pm.
About an hour later, a Hillsdale Police officer spotted a green Pontiac G6. Police pursued the car which reportedly hit a car on Kingshighway before stopping on Washington Boulevard near Sarah.
Police say they found a two-year-old who they report was rolling around loose in the back of the car. The toddler appeared happy and healthy in the arms of a St. Louis Police officer.
That wasn’t the only twist. The mom was a young woman, wearing a sun dress. Police say the woman admitted to officers that she told the driver not to stop for police, because she needed to get home to grandma. The driver had to use crutches because he reportedly told police he’d been shot two days earlier.
Police say they did not find a gun in the green Pontiac. The toddler stayed with a St. Louis Police officer until a relative came to get her.
