Alligator bites off woman’s arm

SEMINOLE COUNTY, FLORIDA - Trappers have captured and killed an alligator that attacked a swimmer in Florida yesterday (Saturday).

The woman was swimming in a local river when the alligator pulled her under, according to investigators.

Fish and wildlife officials say a canoeist helped rescue the woman, but not before it took of part of her right arm.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and is recovering after undergoing surgery.

A witness described seeing the shocking aftermath of the attack.

(Vonda Payne/Witness) - "I saw her in the water swimming and for her to come back without her arm that was very scary."

There were 12 alligator attacks in Florida in 2013, the most recent year for which attack report statistics are available.

The last deadly attack was in 2007.
