Police K9 veteran laid to rest in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, IL (KPLR) – On July 20, the Monroe County, IL Sheriff’s Department lost a 10-year veteran. Sari, a 12-year-old German Shepherd, had been a K9 officer with the department since 2005. She died in her favorite place, the backseat of Lt. James Lansing’s patrol car. Lansing had been her partner for 10 years.

Sari was scheduled to retire on Aug. 1.

A memorial service for Sari will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia, IL at 10:00am Saturday. She will be laid to rest in a special police dog cemetery.
