ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Another string of murders in St. Louis has left three women dead.

Laura Green, 23, was found shot to death on Euclid around 8 a.m. Monday.

Ce’onta Cretter, 21, and a 23-year-old woman were found shot to death on Ruskin around 2:30 a.m.

Police said all three women knew each other.

A total of 21 women have already been murdered in St. Louis this year. A total of 23 women were murdered all of last year.

The numbers are something that an UMSL criminologist said will surprise most people.

“It goes outside the social norms for women to be violent, and to some extent that they would be victims of homicide as well,” Dr. Kristin Carbone-Lopez said.

She added that the numbers reveal more about the city’s crime problem than they do about women in general.

“Nationwide the trend is downward,” she said.

Police have not revealed the motives for the most recent murders and no suspects are in custody.
