Police: Suspect in custody, three at-large in Central West End shooting
ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) – There is new information regarding the investigation of a St. Louis police sergeant who was shot in the Central West End. Authorities have one person in custody and are searching for three additional suspects.
According to Leah Freeman, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, investigators are working to determine this individual’s involvement in the shooting.
The officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, was struck in the upper torso. His injuries were non-life threatening.
Investigators said the 16-year veteran fired back and may have struck one of the suspects, who got away in a Ford sedan. Police located the car a short time later, near the intersection of Natural Bridge Road at Goodfellow.
An unidentified man sought treatment at a nearby hospital, claiming he had been shot in that area. However, authorities confirmed the wounded man was the driver.
Police have confirmed the wounded sergeant is African-American.
There is no word on a motive.
