(KPLR) – The Illinois Department of Transportation is set to suspend road construction for the 4th of July holiday. The suspension will increase traffic flow and ease road congestion for all transportation projects from 3 pm Thursday, July 2nd through Monday, July 6th just pass midnight.

Lanes will be opened, where possible, but motorists should be alert as lane closures in some work zones will remain in effect. Please slow down, eliminate distractions and use extra caution while driving through all work zones. Work zone speed limits remain in effect where posted.

The suspension will not affect emergency repairs.
