ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – The legacy of an Olympian is being honored with a colorful project in the old north neighborhood. Olympian Jesse Owens was a celebrated track star who raced in the 1936 Berlin games and is now memorialized on a mural.

Students from the group “raw canvas” participated in the project which started during Black History Month in February.

The students were asked to create a mural that reflected Owens struggles and triumphs as an African-American athlete competing in Nazi Germany.
