ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - Countless Americans suffer from heart disease. Everything from smoking to obesity is blamed. A breakthrough medical device is helping patients live longer. It's called the left ventricular assist device.

Malcolm Robbins is a patient at Barnes Jewish Hospital with the device. Natalie Huelsmann is a nurse who helps patients who have an LVAD.
