ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – An 84-year-old woman was killed while sitting on her back porch Friday afternoon. They said Betty Knight was on her porch with her husband when the gunfire rang out.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the officers  responded to a call of a person down in the 5000 block of Crosswood Drive around 3:30 p.m. When officers arrived they found the woman, Betty Knight, dead on the back porch from an apparent gunshot wound.

Her husband was with Knight and called 911 after he heard a possible gunshot and noticed his wife bleeding from her neck.

“I’ve lived out here since 1958, and things like that don’t happen out here,” Charlie Sloan said. “It’s just a shock.”

The shooting has left police puzzled. They are still looking for suspects and trying to find out what motivated the shooting.

The St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit is conducting the active and ongoing homicide investigation.
