ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A 43-year-old man was shot late Monday night while attempting to speed away from an armed robber, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

The shooting occurred at 11 p.m. near the intersection of Goodfellow Boulevard and Stratford Avenue, in the Walnut Park neighborhood.

The victim told police he was walking to his car when the suspect approached him and asked for money. When the victim refused and got into his vehicle, the suspect pulled out a handgun and announced a robbery.

The victim drove off, but the suspect fired a single shot at the car, striking the driver in the back. He’s recovering at a local hospital.
