CENTREVILLE, IL (KPLR) -St. Clair County first responders rescued some 30 individuals from their flooded neighborhood in Centreville Friday afternoon.  The county’s Emergency Management Director Herb Simmons said the ground was so saturated recent rain water had no place to go.  He described the area on Piat Street west of I-255 as one of the worst.

Centreville Mayor Mark Jackson said many of the displaced residents had relatives to stay with until the waters recede.  But a local church was standing by to offer shelter if needed.

Centreville wasn’t the only low lying area in the county to flood.  All but one of the entrances to Scott Air Force Base were shut down due to flooded roads.
