COLUMBIA, MO (KPLR) - For 42 years Shakespeare's Pizza in Columbia, Missouri has provided what they call "The Party!"

Their location on Ninth Street has been a hot spot for generations.

Besides having a great recipe, they go through one ton of flour and cheese a week plus five-hundred pounds of pepperoni.

However, Monday June 17th will be a memorable one because it was the day the original Shakespeare's came crashing to the ground.

Their lease was up, the building was getting older and it made sense to rebuild. They are still open for business on 8th and Elm right behind their ninth street location.

The new facility will be ready in August of 2016.

They will also have a fifty-year lease as they continue to churn out pizzas for future generations.

The demolition began at 6 am and the final part of the building came down just after 2 pm. Kurt Mirksching who has worked at Shakespeare's for 38 of its 42 years says "it is bittersweet but the new building will be great!"

They also have locations south and west of downtown Columbia.

He also says, "We have thought about coming to St. Louis for a long time but let's get through this project first and then we will see."
