St. Louis Red Cross sends additional volunteers to Texas flooding
ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – More Red Cross volunteers from the St. Louis area deployed today to Texas to help storm victims there.
The group- a couple from St. Charles and a woman from Calverton Park- met with Red Cross officials before flying out for Texas.
The St. Charles couple is going to Houston where they will drive food trucks; the Calverton Park woman is going to San Antonio to help with mental health services.
A total of 22 Red Cross volunteers from our area including the three today have now deployed to Texas in the last month.
Two of them have gone twice.
We spoke with the group leaving today about helping those in need.
‘Anytime you go to one of these it`s a little different. So I always go in with an open mind, just go with the flow and go where we`re needed most. So, you know, I`m expecting the worst, hoping for the best and we`ll see what happens,’ said volunteer James Brown.
‘Everybody does a lot of good things in the world for the people who are in their lives, but for me this is like a very concrete, almost a privilege, you know, to be able to go out and give people that extra assistance,’ added Karen Profitt, another volunteer from Calverton Park.
The volunteers will spend two to three weeks in Texas.
