ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KPLR) – It’s already a busy stretch of Lindbergh Blvd., and it’s about to get even more congested. MoDOT is warning drivers to seek out detours for the next 2 weeks in the area of Lindbergh and Rusty Rd. A stretch of Lindbergh spanning over railroad tracks is being resurfaced.
“If we didn’t close it and we had to do one lane at a time, we could potentially be backing traffic up onto I-55 which would be a big safety issue,” said MoDOT’s Karen Yeomans.
There will be access to all of the businesses in the area during construction. MoDOT warns there will be construction noise at all hours because the work will be taking place around the clock.
Two walking billboards north of the affected area expect the detours to send even more cars their way.
“I think it will be great because more people will see our sign, more people will go to the store and it will be good,” said Emma Holtgrieve.
Other drivers are not looking forward to the next 2 weeks.
“I’m expecting disaster,” said one driver. “It’s already a mess.”
Yeomans says the work will extend the life of the bridge by 30 years.
