ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – The St. Louis Cardinals are once again the target of scorn from sports blog Deadspin, after team mascot Fredbird was recently photographed holding a ‘Police Lives Matter’ sign.

The exact date and location of the event is unknown.

Tom Ley of Deadspin sought comment from the team to understand why Fredbird would visit a police event and hold such a sign. A Cardinals employee responded that Fredbird is available for all kinds of events and special appearances, and all someone has to do is fill out an application.

The phrase ‘Police Lives Matter’ began to gain more attention as protestors used the slogan ‘Black Lives Matter’ in the months following the shooting death of Ferguson teenager Michael Brown by Officer Darren Wilson.

Fox 2 News also submitted an email to Team Fredbird asking for a comment, but the station has yet to hear back from the group.
