COLLINSVILLE, IL (KPLR)-A woman is dead after a fire ripped through her Collinsville home just after midnight Sunday.  Firefighters arrived at the home on Ridge Street, just east of Rt. 159, north of Collinsville, to find flames shooting out of a single room. That's where the woman's body was found.

Firefighters say the damage was pretty much contained to that one front room. They also believe that there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

Family members identify the victim as Darlene Stovall, 82, and say she may have fallen asleep while smoking.

At least three other fire departments rushed in to help extinguish the flames.

The focus will now shift to finding a cause for the fire. State investigators are expected to be on scene Sunday as they begin their attempts to determine what happened.
