ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – St. Louis Police are looking for a colorfully dressed suspect who stole an approximately seven-foot tall Processional Cross from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, on the campus of St. Louis University.

The theft happened Monday at about 2:00 P.M.

According to a witness, the man, who was wearing a large feathered headdress and other colorful clothing, was seen walking into the church, going up to the altar, taking to cross, and leaving.

A SLU spokesperson says the Processional Cross is used primarily during Sunday mass.
SLU student Ben Artime finds the strange incident disturbing.
'I think it is very disrespectful, definitely,' Artime said.

Security pictures show the suspect carrying the heaving metal cross down Grand Avenue. He later is believed to have taken a Metro bus to Gravois and Chippewa.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Louis Police.
