FESTUS, MO (KTVI) – The boyfriend of a Festus woman is in police custody in connection with the abuse death of a 17-month-old child.

According to Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis, 21-year-old Taylor Fast was arrested on child endangerment charges. Fast called police Sunday morning to report her daughter had been bitten by a spider and was unconscious. When police and EMS arrived, the child was pronounced dead. However, investigators knew the spider bite story was bogus. The child, Layla Fast, suffered severe injuries.

The boyfriend has not been identified, pending formal charges. He had been considered a person of interest in the case.
