EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KPLR)- A police officer and a suspect were shot Wednesday morning in Edwardsville. The shooting happened around 7:30a.m. at a home in the 300 block of South Fillmore Drive. There was a struggle over the weapon and during the struggle a Madison County deputy discharged his firearm. One officer was shot in the hand and the suspect was reportedly shot in the head. It is unclear if the suspect fired his weapon as well.

The officer and the suspect have been transported the hospital for treatment.
