ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – About 9 hours ago, police were standing at Hampton exit ramp from I-44 westbound with at least 20 shell casings at their feet. Investigators are now looking into a possible connection to the first shooting early Tuesday morning.

Police give this account:  at least two people were shot in rolling gun battle with at least two, perhaps three cars involved.  One of the cars, a white Dodge Challenger, hopped back onto eastbound I-44.  The driver ditched the car in an alley near the 44-55 split.  Police found two of his passengers there, dead.  The driver remains at large. Police suspect these shootings may be in retaliation for the deadly shooting at the Cuetopia sports bar in North County early Tuesday morning.

Police believe all these victims were targeted, but the way the bullets have been flying, it`s only a matter of time before another unintended target like a one-year-old gets hit.

Police say the two killed Wednesday were adult, African-American men.  Police have not released their names.  Police say they found heroin and a couple hundred dollars in cash in the car, but aren't sure whether that played a role in the shootings.
