UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, The Bronx (PIX11) — A mother of five was gunned down in the stairway of her apartment building this week in The Bronx.
According to PIX 11, the woman's killer is still at large.
Friends and family of Michelle Cox, 41, can’t believe she’s gone. Cox was shot execution-style Wednesday at 10 p.m.
Cox leaves behind five children. Her long-time girlfriend, who doesn’t want her identity revealed, said she believes the shooting was a case of mistaken identity. “She was a beautiful person,” said her friend. “Everybody really loved her and adored her. I don’t think anybody in their right mind would want to hurt her.”
According to police, Cox went to a nearby corner store without her cellphone and then back to her building. The elevator wasn’t working so she was forced to take the stairs.
Building residents say security is an ongoing issue.
Authorities say Cox had an extensive criminal record. The father of her children was visiting when she was found dead in the staircase.
