Vigil held for U-City fire victims

UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KPLR) - On, Saturday family, friends and neighbors gathered for a vigil to remember a great-grandmother and her two great-grandchildren killed in a house fire Wednesday in University City.

University City fire officials say a space heater started the fire that took the lives of 78-year-old Mamie Williams, 8-year-old Kaliyah Dunger, and 4-year-old Trevion Dunger. The fire happened near Roth Avenue and Bartmer. Firefighters found the unconscious victims on the second floor of the residence. All three were transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

The children lived in Jennings with their mother, but were at their great-grandmother’s house while their mother worked a night shift. Four other family members were in the house at the time of the fire, but managed to get out safely.

The wake for all three victims will be Friday, February 13 from 4pm to 7pm at  Layne Renaissance Chapel at 7302 West Florissant, St. Louis . The funeral will be Saturday Feb 14 at 10am at Friendly Temple located at 5515 Martin Luther King Drive.
