Police vehicle wrecked in serious Edwardsville accident

EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KPLR) -Two people are injured in an accident at a busy Edwardsville intersection involving an SIU police vehicle.  Investigators say the officer was not chasing the vehicle.

The accident occurred in the busy intersection of Illinois route 157 and Center Grove early Tuesday afternoon near the SIUE campus.   A witness says the car was t-boned.  The wrecked police vehicle is still in the middle of the intersection.   The other vehicle is in the ditch.

Police say that Brittanie Schaefer, 25 was driving a car that hit the SIUE police vehicle.  She has been taken to Saint Louis University hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the marked SIU Edwardsville police car, Ryan Bundy, has been taken to Anderson hospital in Maryville.

The accident reconstruction team is working in the area.  The road should open soon.  The cause of the accident is not known at this time.
