Drury Inn murder suspect makes first court appearance

ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – A suspect in the south St. Louis Drury Inn fatal shooting made his first court appearance Monday in St. Louis city court.

43-year-old Joseph Bowens is charged with first degree murder, robbery and armed criminal action.

He was arrested in Poplar Bluff for an unrelated incident on January 17th and quickly connected to the murder of 50-year-old Scott Knopfel.

The hotel manager was shot to death at the Drury Inn on Hampton and Wilson January 15th during a robbery.

Bowens is due back in court February 23rd to enter a plea.
