Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigating a string of car break-ins

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KPLR) – The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is looking into a string of vehicle thefts south of Festus.

All of the thefts occurred between January 8th and January 15th, with a total of 28 vehicles broken into.

Officials say all of the vehicles broken into were left unlocked. They also say at first the break-ins were limited to small items like lighters and change. But lately the thefts have grown to hand guns and a rifle.

So far all of the thefts have been located on Highway TT, Highway AA, Premo Road, Burley Road and in Selma Village.

Deputies have increased patrols in the affected areas.
