CASEYVILLE, IL (KPLR) – This past Sunday Caseyville Illinois police pulled over Jose Vasquez Perez, a driver from Kentucky for driving with an expired license plate. During the traffic stop the officer discovered the man did not have insurance, and no valid drives license.

But the most interesting item found in the car was rooster found in the car along with cockfighting paraphernalia.

Police say the rooster was number and tagged, which made them suspicious. They also said that it’s hard to prosecute cockfighting without paraphernalia.

Cockfighting is illegal in all 50 states, along with the District of Columbia and is a felony 40 state including Illinois.

Authorities encourage anyone with information about a cock-fight to call their local police department.  The Humane Society will pay anyone up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of a cockfighter.
