ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR)– MoDOT has reopened Interstate 44/I-55 downtown after crews completed a scheduled ramp demolition ahead of schedule. Workers removed the ramp from the depressed lanes to the eastbound Poplar Street Bridge.

The ramp to Walnut remains closed, but will reopen by Tuesday, January 20.

The ramp was removed to make room for the new dual-lane ramp from the westbound Poplar Street Bridge to southbound I-55.

Drivers who used that ramp can access eastbound I-64 from the 6th Street ramp or can use the MLK, Eads, or new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge to get to Illinois. IL Route 3 drivers especially will need to find alternate routes. Illinois is scheduled to build a connector road from the Martin Luther King Bridge to Route 3 in 2016.
