5 injured in wrong way crash on southbound I-55

BARNHART, MO (KPLR)-A wrong-way driver led to a three car crash on Interstate 55 in Jefferson County, MO, Saturday morning, injuring five people. The crash happened around 4:25am on southbound I-55 just north of Route. M.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, 38-year-old Jaime Derousse  was driving a 2011 Honda Accord when she got on I-55 at the Route M interchange going north in the southbound lanes .  She didn't get far before she struck an older model Hondo Accord driven by a 19-year-old. He was uninjured. Derousse then stuck Ford Edge with four people from St. Charles County inside. They were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. Derousse's injuries were listed as serious.

The wrong-way driver, Derousse, who is from Festus, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and four counts of second-degree assault.

I-55 was shut down while the crash was investigated, but lanes reopened around 6:00am Saturday.
