ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- It was a huge night for first-time nominee Gina Rodriguez at the Golden Globe awards ceremony. Rodriguez took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy for her role in the CW's 'Jane The Virgin.'

Needless to say, we all needed a box of tissues for this one. The actress moved the audience to tears after the honor. She stood before the crowd and reminisced about a very important lesson her father taught her growing up.

"The award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes. My father used to tell me to say every morning that today is going to be a great day, I can and I will. Well dad, today, I can and I did."

In the show, Rodriguez portrays a young, devout woman who discovers that she was accidentally artificially inseminated.

You can watch 'Jane The Virgin' on Mondays 9 | 8c right here on KPLR 11.
