NASHVILLE, IL (KPLR) - It appears the entire community of Nashville, Illinois is grieving the loss of four residents killed in a plane crash. Robin Garlich said, "It`s heartbreaking it really is, my heart breaks for them."
People are still coming to grips with Friday night`s horrible tragedy when a plane crashed killing their friends, 48-year-old Marty Gutzler, his 46-year-old wife Kim their daughter 9-year-old Piper, and Piper`s 14-year-old cousin Sierra Wilder. 7-year-old Sailor Gutzler was the only survivor. Even though she was injured Sailor crawled from the damaged plane and walked almost a mile for help. Travis Volz is a friend of the Gutzler family, "When I heard I was surprised in the sense that anybody could do that under the circumstances. Then, I thought about it Sailor makes sense.
So many people are expected for the Gutzler family visitation they are holding it in the middle school gym.
Counselors were on hand to help fellow students cope. Sunday night teachers met in the school library to prepare for all the grief. People fondly remember the victims. Michael Brink, the school superintendent said Sierra was a very friendly person, "Sierra was a super nice girl, was interested in dance and drama, little more quiet and reserved."
Travis Volz said Marty and Kim Gutzler were pillars of the community, "They were just a mainstay for every event, everything, everything that happened, every sport, every activity they were always involved in it."
Michael Brink said Piper loved the outdoors, "I can think of her kicking a soccer ball or running around that`s what I think about."
People hope and pray for Sailor. Robin Garlich said, "She`s going to have to have a lot of love and a lot of support I think Nashville will give a lot of support to her and the family.
