(KPLR) – On Monday’s “The Way It Oughta Be”, sometimes it pays to be old school.

Nearly every car sold today has an automatic transmission.  The old-school stick shift is hard to find.  Fewer than 5% of new cars sold today have the old manual transmission.

I know one driver who is glad he bought a stick shift.  He was driving his car in Florida when a couple of bad guys tried to pull off a carjacking.

They ordered him out of the car.  He left.  When thieves tried to steal his car, they couldn't.  They didn't know how to drive a stick shift.  The crime was foiled.

Sometimes it pays to be old school.
