ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KPLR)-The United States Postal Service says Monday is going to be its busiest mailing day of the year. USPS is expecting to process more than 640 million cards, letters, and packages this December 15. That’s up from 607 million last year on the busiest mail day, which was December 16, 2013.
The increase is attributed to more advertising and mail package volume.
During the entire holiday season, USPS expects to deliver 15.5 billion cards, letters, and packages.
December 20th is the deadline for First Class Mail and Priority Mail to ensure delivery by Christmas. December 23rd is the deadline for sending packages using Priority Mail Express.
Some major cities, including St. Louis, will be delivering on Sundays and on Christmas Day.
FedEx is also expecting a busy day Monday. In fact, FedEx expects it to be the busiest day ever in the company’s history. They’re preparing to ship 22.6 million packages Monday, more than double what they do on a normal day.
FedEs attributes the increase to more online shopping.
