Reports of looting, and fires as protesters have running battles with police

FERGUSON, MO (KPLR) - Shortly after  9 pm the eery calm at the Ferguson Police Department was shattered after shots were fired near protesters.

A crowd of over 1,000 ran for cover after hearing the shots. That was followed by protesters rocking a St. Louis County Police vehicle and eventually set on fire.

The crowd moved north on Florissant Road breaking some store front windows.

Police are reporting looting has occurred along Florissant Road and spread to West Florissant Road, with a Little Caesars, Walgreens, and Sams Meat Market having been set on fire.

Numerous businesses along West Florissant have had windows broken and looted.
